Back to better sleeping last night – yay! Ian only got up once to nurse as usual, and then slept late. I had to go in and get him up to go to work and daycare. When I picked him up, he claimed he was hungry and that he wanted soup. (“Doop!”) So I made us a bowl of Chickarina soup for lunch before naptime and he ate quite a bit of it. I think he is feeling better now that at least the lower molars have broken through.
After his nap, I had promised to drive Elizabeth around, so first we picked her up and then picked up Lia at school to take her to a dentist appointment. It was a pediatric dentist, so they had lots of cool stuff for Ian to look at and play with in the waiting room. Of course, what he really wanted was a pen from the cup they had on the counter. Lia’s appointment didn’t take too long, anyway, which was good. They wanted to go straight home, so Ian and I had time to go to the library. It was mobbed today since it was chilly and rainy out, but Ian got a spot for coloring with his “mark-eyes” anyway. Towards the end of our time there, while Ian was playing with some of the other toys, a woman who I had chatted with before came in with her son, who is almost the same age as Ian. I had seen her at the museum as well as the library and we both commented on how hard it is to find afternoon activities in bad weather. We started talking again, and she suggested exchanging numbers and I suggested we could get together for a play date. She was very open to that, which is cool. She seems like a really nice person and even if she isn’t as old as I am, her hair was gray, so we probably have more in common with each other than with the younger moms. Her son seems like a nice little guy also – at least not as aggressive as Val! That was the good part of our library visit. The bad part was that on the way out of the Children’s Room, I was carrying Ian, and tripped over a child-size shopping cart and fell. I managed to let Ian down easily, but I scraped my knee and really bruised my upper chest and collarbone on the handle of the shopping cart. Ian didn’t even cry – he just lay there looking startled for a minute. As I fell, the cart pushed forward and ran into another older lady, who was upset because she’d just had a knee replacement. I think I got the worst of it though. My chest and collarbone are very sore. I doubt anything is broken since I can still move my arm freely, but it does hurt quite a bit.
With all that, we were late getting home for dinner, but I staved off Ian with a couple pieces of cheese and some yogurt milk. Dinner was ready about the time David got home, so we ate downstairs. Ian ate a lot tonight, too, which was good. We started the bedtime process at the regular time and he was asleep by 8:00, so I guess we’re over the time change.
