Ian picked up a pen off the reception counter on the way out of daycare today and rather then risk a tantrum I let him have it. He was OK with it in the car and wrote on some papers I gave him. Then when we got home, I had to change him before I started my lunch, because he had wet through the cheapie diapers they use at daycare and soaked his pants. I left his pants off, figuring I’d change him when we went go up for his nap. So I turned my attention to what I was going to have for lunch, while Ian went off to the other room to watch Teletubbies (or so I thought). Anyway, I had just sat down with my sandwich when he appeared in the kitchen saying “Knees! Knees!” and pointing to his legs. When I looked at him, I saw that he had gotten the pen again and written all over both his legs from the knees down! I guess I should be glad it wasn’t on his clothes, and really it was my fault for not taking the pen away, but I was still pretty annoyed. I didn’t have any hairspray on hand, but a quick check of the internet led me to use my Clinique eye make-up remover which worked pretty well. It didn’t sting, but Ian was still upset, both at being held down and rubbed and because I was upset. Hopefully this will reinforce the idea that we only write on paper. The rest if the day was pretty normal. We stayed in today after his nap, playing with blocks and watching Curious George. Then after dinner, we played with Daddy and went up to bed at the usual time.
We talked to Heather in the evening and there has been some more progress on getting their mother’s diagnosis settled. After the last scan, they decided she’s probably at Stage 2 in terms of the cancer, which is better than we thought. She has more testing and a case review on Friday, where they will decide what treatment they recommend. They will probably want to do the surgery, and do it soon. David wants to get down to see her with Ian before Thanksgiving, and we decided to go this upcoming weekend. It’s kind of short notice, but I think we can manage.
